Ice Out on the South Fork of the New River

AWE thanks Emilie Enzmann for the pictures she took of the South Fork of the New River's "Ice Out" in mid-January. Her shop, Todd Mercantile & Bakery, is close by this primary source of the New River as it begins its normally gentle life flowing north into Virginia. After its northwest meandering across southwest Virginia, the New plunges into West Virginia where it meets up with the Gauley to form the Kanawha River which empties into the Ohio and then the mighty Mississip'! What a difference a few miles make in where snow and rain fall and where they "travel"! Do you know your watershed? Can you trace the rain that falls in your yard to its "final" destination?
